FESTIVAL SUCCESS

"Two Women and a Chair" directed by Clair Foster with the cast of Ali Fear and Heather Foster, won Best play in the Shropshire Drama Festival 2008 and went on to the quarter finals of the All England Theatre Festival.  The play also won awards at the Tamworth Drama Festival.  Rehearsal pictures are here.

YOUTH ETHOS   YOUNG ADULTS GROUP

The Belfrey Youth is run from the Belfrey Theatre, Princes Street Wellington, and is therefore lucky to have all the facilities of a real theatre.

As you can imagine this is a particularly noisy evening with virtually every room in the theatre being utilised.

The aim is to have fun, whilst learning about theatre. We feel that theatre is a special place to belong to and many of our Youth will certainly uphold this belief.

The Belfrey gives young people the opportunity to express themselves, to stretch themselves, to lose their inhibitions and grow in confidence, amongst people who care. They will then hopefully carry this experience with them throughout their lives, calling upon it and helping them reach their full potential in life.

During the sessions we teach them to have confidence in what they do and believe in themselves. We never force them to do anything but find that they will join in voluntarily as we are a very friendly crowd who encourage each other and laugh together in our triumphs (and mishaps). To enable them to put into place what they have learned, the Youth are involved in various activities held both in and around our theatre.

We aim to enter plays in Drama Festivals throughout the year.

Over the past 2 years we have achieved our fair share of trophies from Wellington, Birmingham and The Shropshire Festivals. These awards were only won through dedication, commitment and hard work, but we also had a lot of fun getting there.

The Youth theatre are also very heavily involved in the panto which is performed in January, and the musical production which is in June. This gives them the opportunity to work together as one big team. Older youth, Younger youth and Adults all performing together, teaching each other their skills and learning to respect each other, no matter what.

A new theatre group for young adults of age 16 and over has been recently formed and is under the guidance of experienced actor and internationally renown education guru, writer and broadcaster Geoff Hannan (www.hannans.org.uk).  The group meets every Wednesday from 8pm
