Habeas Corpus
Posted on March 12, 2018 | No CommentsAlan Bennett’s first play, written in 1973, is a farcical comedy set in Brighton in the 1960s where the lust and longing of the permissive society has well and truly taken hold of the apparently respectable Wicksteed family. Like some saucy Magill seaside postcard as retouched by Magritte, or an end-of-the-pier romp reorganised by Orton, the piece shows how a collection of stock types from Hove find themselves propelled into the permissive society with the arrival of a false-breast fitter from Leatherhead. Identities are mistaken, the wrong knockers admiringly fondled, and libidos burst out of enforced hibernation. boxoffice@belfreytheatre.com or 01952 […] -

Lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons, lemons
Posted on June 11, 2017 | No CommentsBy Sam Steiner The average person will speak 123,205,750 words in a lifetime. But what if there were a limit? Bernadette and Oliver are about to find out. This award-winning play imagines a world where we’re forced to say less; examining how we express ourselves, personally and politically, through the lens of one couple’s relationship. It’s about what we say and how we say it; about the things we can only hear in the silence; about dead cats, activism, eye contact and more. The Real Inspector Hound
Posted on June 11, 2017 | No Commentsby Tom Stoppard Stoppard’s classic comedy ingeniously re-invents the country house whodunnit in which two theatre critics find themselves more involved than they realise in the murder mystery on stage. Playing mischievously with theatrical convention, the play breaks down the wall between stage and auditorium with a fatal piece of audience participation.
